OBITUARY

MR ANDREW STEWART

We regret to record the death of Mr Andrew Stewart, a well-known Public Works, engineer who until October was in charge of the survey for the Opotiki railway extension. Born in Australia 64 years ago, Mr Stewart came to New Zealand as a youth and joined the engineering section of the Public Works Department. He specialised in railway construction and was assistant engineer in charge of the Taneatua line when it was formed. Mr Stewart retired on superannuation in 1935 after 40 years service with the Department but was recalled. Mr SteAvart w as an efficient officer and was very popular with his colleagues and subordinates. He suffered a heart attack in October and was an inmate of the hospital from then until his death on Thursday 1 evening. He leaves a widow and thirteen adult children.
