Francis cup matches TANEATUA PREVAILS The annual Francis Cup open com petition conducted by the Bay of Plenty Bowling Centre, was held on January 1 and 2, on the greens of the Opotiki Citizens' Club at 'Opotiki. Twelve teams competed, resenting various clubs in the ccntre The weather was perfect, the greens >vere in good order, and, the whole function proved most enjoyable. After two days' play, the teams ■skipped by G. Peebles of the Tan--eatua Club, and by S. M. Jeplison of the Opotiki Citizens' Club, proved the winners of their respective sections, in both cases without any losses. These two teams played the finals on the morning of the 3rd, and after a well contested game, this match also resulted in a tie. In the afternoon the two teams in question played another game of 21 beads, this meeting resulting in a decisive win for Peebles, his score being 22, as against ,11 to Jephson. HONOUR FOR BOWLER XIFE MEMBERSHIP CONFERRED Several members of the Te Puke Bowling Club were visitors to Opotiki over the New Year for thfc •optin tournament arranged by the OpTytiki Club. During the week-end high honour ■was accorded Mr T. Palmer, a member of the Te Puke Club and widely known and respected throughout the Bay of Plenty. At a little ceremony performed before the many visitors, Mr Palmer Avas made an honorary life member of the Opotiki Club and was presented with a hat band of club colours and monogram by the Opotiki president.
