WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN?
How many times has one heard the query recently: "Where are the Children?" Since the commencement of the holidays Whakatane has .been strangely silent. Particularly does this apply to the suburban areas where the streets before and after school echoed and re-echoed to the calls, whistles, and cries of the younger generation at play. The vacation has taken more children away this year than in the past. They are to be found at the seaside, the lake side and visitingrelatives in the larger centres. It is strange that we miss them in view of the oft-repeated desire for peace when they are around us during the year. Early February will however see them back at school again and perhaps our wishes on the subject of their whereabouts will be less to the point.
