"CARRY ON"
POETIC MAORI APPEAL Pakelia folk who have been inclined to slacken off in their Centennial programmes can be stimulated by the following translation of a poetic protest of Mr Riri Maihi Kawiti, of Waiomio, against postponement of the Waitangi celebrations: — "We have the hangi (oven) all ready. "The food is cooked and the kapa Maori open. "Then we say we will not have it now, but some other time. "We close up the oven and when we open it again the food has lost all its taste. "Then again, the shoal of rock cod are swimming past the point. When they have swum past they go ion and don't return."
