LABOUR PARTY AFFAIRS
DIVISIONAL REPRESENTATIVE
APPOINTEE FFOM TE KARAKA:
At a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Labour Representation Committee, held on Saturday, December 2nd, consideration was given to the question of nominating a suitable person to represent the No. 3 Divisional Area on the National Executive of the New Zealand Labour Party. No. Divisional Area includes Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Napier and Waipawa electorates. The present member of the National Executive representing the area is Mr A. G. Hultquist, M.P., when it was reported to the L.R.C., had circularised all branches of the'party and affiliations in the area to the effect that he would not be available for re-election on account of the fact that he had joined the New Zealand Special Force. The L.R.C. decided to nominate Mr Charles Mills of Te Karaka to fill the vacancy. Mr Ghas. Mills is the president of the Bay of Plenty Labour Representation Committee and lias been since its inception. He joined the party several years ago and recently had his name placed on the Labour Party's list of approved Parliamentary candidates. He is a Justice of the Peace, member of the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board, Chairman of the Te Karaka District High School Committee, Pre sident of the Waikohu Boxing Association, Chairman of the Te Karaka Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, ex-chairman of the Te Karaka Town Board and until recently was the proprietor of what was considered to be one of the finest country all-electric bakeries in New Zealand. He has recently acquired a farm near Te Karaka. Mr Mills is a returned .soldier and prominent in the affairs of the Waikohu Returned Soldiers' Association. He visited Australia with the New Zealand Returned Soldiers on the occasion of the Anzac celebrations in Sydney In. 1938. He was also a delegate to the last annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party.
MR HULTQUIST'S ENLISTMENT APPROVAL OF BAY OF PLENTY' L.R.C. At a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Labour Representative Committee held in Te Karaka on Saturday, December 2nd, the Bay of Plenty L.R.G representative of delegates from all parts of the electorate, discussed the position that had arisen in the electorate as a result of the fact that the member, Mr A. G. Hultquist, had enlisted with the New Zealand Spccial Force and was scheduled to enteif camp on December 9. A resolution was carried unanimously approving of Mr Hultquist's enlistment and conveying to him the best wishes of the L.R.C. The arrangement lie had made with Messrs Coleman and Moncur, M.P.'s, was also unanimously approved and in a separate resolution it was resolvled to thank; Mr Hultquist's two colleagues for agreeing to share the work of the Bay of Plenty Member and to assure them of the whole-hearted co-opera-tion and loyalty of the L.R.C. and all branches in the electorate.
