CHARGE OF DRUNKENNESS
MAN ORDERED OUT OF TOWN
At the Opoliki Police Court on Friday morning before Messrs J. D. Clark and C. Pipe J f s.l\, Charles Donald Stewart, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found drunk in Church Street.
Sergeant J. Isbister told the Court that accused arrived from Whakatane on Wednesday without any money. He tried to obtain board and lodging from the Hospital Board but was unsuccessful. The R.S.A. assisted him and he was lodged the night. He visited hotels and asked to be shouted and when refused abused everyone. He was finally thrown out of the three hotels. He had been in New Zealand since 1925 and at one time was a naval rating. Most of his time Avas spent in gaol. He was a most undesirable man to have in the town and the sooner he got out the better. He had got into trouble almost immediately on his arrival in New Zealand and had been in and out of gaol ever since.
Accused "who has a lengthy list of aliases, "was advised by the bench to get 't>u£ of town as soon as possible. It was suggested to him that he should join one of the forces for his own good. Stewart Avas convicted and discharged, at the same time being advised to get out of town today. He was warned that if still about on Saturday he would be charged with vagrancy.
