OHOPE AFFAIRS

Sir,—l read your report of the County Council meeting last Tuesday. Councillor McCready roared his best about the affairs of Ohope. Quite right. Usually when he speaks of affairs at Ohope his voice is like that of one crying in the wilderness —the Council closes up like an oyster—no one listens—nothing doing. But this time the enormity of the problems and the mention of fire and flame woke up two or three councillors and there was a discussion, and something done. Evidently Councillor McCready does not make notes of his business. Two most important matters he missed. One was the disgraceful state of the fords at Ohope (Why not bridges?) Do you know that last week three cars had to be literally pulled out of one of those fords. What do you think of that for a dinkum humdinger at a modern seaside resort! Then the matter of the 140 acre pohutukawa forest not being proected from the ravage of fire, although, well known to all the councillors, was never mentioned. A fire break could be easily made up the valley on the western side, the most dangerous-sitlu.. The apathy of our councillors makes sick. Yours etc.. POHUTTJKAWA.
