ST. ANDREW'S NIGHT
THE SKIRL O' THE PIPES
CALEDONIAN'S INGLESIDE
St. Andrew's night in Whakatane saw over three hundred people in tlie Winter Show Building when the Whakatane Caledonian Society held their last Ingleside of the season. Visitors from the surrounding districts included members of the Te Puke Caledonian Society, their Chief being piped into the hall. In his address, the Chief of the Whakatane Society, Mr Simons, said that it Avas a pleasure to welcome other Scots and to see so many in the hall. He regretted that last night's function Avas the last of the season. Masters StcAvart and Walton delighted the croAvd with their skillful exhibition of the Double Sword Dance, Avhile later in the evening the pupils of Miss Kath W T alton, in a Highland Fling, and Miss Molly Armour demonstrated the art of graceful and perfect dancing. Those attending danced to the music of Mrs Armstrong avViile the Pipe Band played the airs for the Schottische, Military TAA r o-step, Gay Gordons and the Eightsome Reel. The latter dance Avas the only occasion on which but a few took the floor. During the evening a raffle was drawn and A. Aitcheson, Avitli > ticket 33, is noAA r the owner of a pair of Budgerigars avMclt had been donated to the Society by Mr A. McLennan. Some idea of the large attendance can be gauged from the fact that four sittings A\ r ere necessary in the spacious supper-room. In the supper the dancers found first class refreshments admirably by an extremely capable band of ladies. Mr A. Stark controlled the evening as M.C.
