AN ASSOCIATION ?
ROWING CLUBS' INTERESTS MATTER DISCUSSED After the presentation of the trophies- at the meeting between the Whakatane arid Tauranga Rowing Clubs at the week-end, officers of these clubs met to consider the question of forming an association for the Bay of Plenty. Mr C. Hay ward, of Whakatane* considered that if the Opotiki Club could be re-formed it would be sufficient, with three teams, for Rowing Clubs in the Bay of Plenty to form their own Association. Continuing, Mr Havward said that there were various matters affecting rowing in the Bay of Plenty which necessitated some control nearer than that existing at present. Under the conditions existing at present it was impossible for clubs in this area to travel such long distances as to Mercer for regattas. Further, pointed out Mr Hayward, a Bay of Plenty Association would be a separate body and would be represented on the New Zealand Rowing Council. Messrs Harvey and S. J. Smith, of Tauranga, also spoke. It was resolved that each club carefully consider the points for and against the suggested move and hold a conference at the end of the season.
