CLAIM FOR REPAIRS

CONTRACTOR WRITES COUNCIL LIABILITY NOT ACCEPTED At the meeting of the. Works Committee of the Whakatane County Council a letter was tabled from Mr F." S. Brockett slating that it would serve to hold the County Council responsible for the cost of repairs and subsequent losses sustained by Mr A. W. Ruff, cartage contractor of Nukuhou North, caused as the result of his carrying truck (6-wheelcr) being severely damaged when passing over a bridge on Bell's Road, Nukuhou North on 22nd June last. The bridge stringers and decking collapsed, causing the rear twin driving axles to be severely damaged by contact with the concrete piers and beam below the bridge stringers. Owing to difficulty in obtaining parts required for the repair of the truck, it is not possible at present to state definitely what the total amount of the claim w r ill be but this will be advised as early as possible. The Works Committee recommend ed that the council should not accept liability in this matter.
