OPOTIKI PRISONERS

ARREST IN HASTINGS

The three youths who from the Opotiki lock-up on day morning were arrested in Has- . j. tings on Tuesday evening.

From Opotiki, the youths travelled to Gisborne and then to Tolaga - Bay, where they abandoned the car belonging to Mr J. Keller, which was removed from Opotiki on Monday morning. The car was found near the cemetery in Tolaga Bay in an undamaged condition. A second car was removed from the town ship, together with five gallons of benzine from another owner, while two cars were also missing from Gisborne on Monday night, one of the latter being recovered early on Tuesday morning.

The Tolaga Bay car, which is still missing, is an eight cylinder model, No. 143,763, owned by Mr Harries. It was removed some time- ' between 6 o'clock on Monday night and 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday. During the same evening, five gallons of benzine were removed from Mr T~ G. McCullough's garage at the school house.

Two 8 h.p. cars of the same make were missing from Gisborne on Moa day night. A car belonging to the : Rev. Kenneth Liggett was removed from Ormond Road during the <?vening, and was recovered at 3.30 o'clock on Tuesday morning at the Corner of Lyttelton road and Gladstone road. The ignition key was still . missing. The second 8 h.p. car, the property of Mr Graham F. M. Hall, 18 Burlington Road, Napier,, was removed from outside the Coronation Hotel at. 9 o'clock on Monday night. The car, a 1938 model, is green in colour, mud;guards being painted black, and the vehicle is shod with new tyres. This car is still missing.
