The Bay of Plenty Beacon Published Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. FRIDAY, NOV, 24th 1939. SHOP IN YOUR OWN DISTRICT
LIMITED stock, and uncertainty of outlook, have combined in creating- a certain amount of apprehension in the business community, and the forthcoming Christmas shopping season is viewed in many cases with no kittle anxiety. The slogan "Shop in your own district'was never <in need of greater emphasis than it is at present. The effects of import restrictions, war emmergencies are enough in themselves to cause businessmen throughout the district to view the position with askance, but they have buil'tv upon a certain share of the towns legitimate trade to which they are justly entitled. Every effort has been made to meet the position, in spite of the difficulties in .the way, and in all shops, the display of goods represents the utmost it is possible to place before the buying public. Many popular lines are unprocurable, others are in very 'limited supply, but on the other hand retailers report a fairly wide and varied assortment of all the usual Christmas lines, and there should be no reason for residents ,in the mistaken idea that goods are unprocurable, going further afield. The season of gifts and stocking-up for the holidays is fast approaching. The buying campaign will begin in earnest in the near future. Citizens of Whakatane, and the residents in the country districts, should remember their loyalty to their own centre which presents the finest shopping facilities in the Bay of Plenty. Only by supporting the local traders can we possibly hope to advance, or retain the present high standard of which we are so proud.
