>lore successful than in previous ;years, the bazaar conducted by the Whakatane Anglican Church in the Parish Hall yesterday, Avas exceedingly' well patronised from 10.30 • a.m. until* 5 p.m., when it was closed. The IraM had a bright atmosphere with the greenery and bunting over and surrounding the stalls -and the white cloths on the afternoon tea tables on the stage. A feature of the bazaar was a large Christmas tree which had been placed immediately in front of the • door. Bedecked with coloured globes rand tinsel, and with saleable goods suspended from the branches, this tree Avas further responsible for .the cheery scene. 'This successful bazaar was the consummation of months of cflovt by the ladies of the parish and their work w r as plentifully displayed on the various stalls. Though it cannot be said that the quality of the goods displayed excelled the standard of former years, the quantity had been increased and the variety extended. The result was a return commensurate ■with the amount of work put in to -/the effort. .Mesdames Sutcliffe, Hills, H. Stewart, and P. Sisam presided over the sweets stall and Mesdames W. Bridger, Ramson and Goodall controlled the apron counter. The produce sales were supervised by Mesdames Arres, Shaw, Bridger and Sims and "the flower section, which added a bright patch of colour, was in the ■care of Mesdames Brunton, Guest, -and Miss Brunton. Mesdames Warren and McLeod attended business at the fancy goods counter and Mesdames Dawson and Good served at the ice- ■ cream stall. The sale of cakes was !n the hands of Mesdames Morgan and Kendall and supervision of activities the Christmas Tree was exercised by Mesdames Timbs, Rangi ,-and Wilson, Afternoon tea was served b3 r Mesdames Searle, Bennett, Frazer, Rand, Xarson and C. Armstrong.
