NEW HALL OPENED

GALA NIGHT AT EDGECUMBE

MANY VISITORS ATTEND

The new Edgecumbe hall was

packed to capacity last Wednesday evening, when residents and visitors

from nil the surrounding districts attended the opening dance and card fixture. From start to finish the event was a remarkable success, and one which was thoroughly enjoyed by every one of the four hundred and fifty persons present. Music was dispensed by the Embassy Dance Band under the capable leadership of the popular Ted Hayden. A feature of the evening was the introduction of the latest dance measures, in which all present joined with a will. Novelty numbers included Monte Carlo, spot waltzes and hidden numbers, while the distribution of streamers and paper hats went a long way towards creating a carnival atmosphere. On behalf of the residents Mr J. Rutherford, factory manager for the Rangitaiki Dairy Company, expressed the congratulations of'the assembly for the action of the building syndicate, Avhich had fir anted

the venture, and the builder, Mr T. Bell, who lie said Avas mainly responsible for the project. Edgecumbe, he claimed would be richer for the new building which would serve the ptib-

lie convenience for many years to come, and Tie trusted there would be many more evenings as successful as the Inaugural one.

Mr Bell returned thanks, after Avhich all present joined in singing musical honours to the promoters.

A delightful supper Avas seWed by a Avilling band of ladies under the capable leadership of Mrs J. Parsons.

The second half of the proceedings Avent Avith the same good swing and the playing of the last waltz, found many A\ T ho Avere still keen to carry on Avith Avhat Avas generally agreed, a most memorable night.

A pleasing feature Avas the vocal accompaniment to seA 7 eral of the better-knoAvn dance airs, by Mrs H. Cresswell of Edgecumbe, who Is to be complimented on her performance, which was warmly appreciated by the dancers.
