WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETING

LOCAL GIRL AS NURSE

The November meeting of the Wui mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was lield in the Waimana Hall last Wednesday afternoon. There was a very lull attendance of members. Mrs Marra presided, and the singing of the Institute song eommeneed the afternoon's pr <.» eeed in g s The minutes were read and confirmed. The president welcomed Mrs N. Clark, who ha" returned from the W.J. trip to the British Isles and Kurope. Mrs Davies gave a most interesting and full report of the bi-annual council meeting, which was held at Waiotahi last month. The- members are asked to bring magazines and books to the December meeting and they will be forwarded to the hospitals. Mrs Clark conveyed a message to the Institute Iron; the W.R.I. Dundee, Scotland, and Rugby W.l. that they would like to be links with N.Z.W.J.'s, and it was decided to

form links with the overseas W.l.'s. Mr* McConncll Jnr. and Miss "Woolheld were appointed correspondents A most interesting travel talk on Germany was given by Mrs N- Clark. The roll call for the month was "A good book I have read and the author." It was decided tc hold the annual show as usual and the show committee was appointed, and the date, of the show will be announced later. The day being "International Day" patriotic songs and choruses were sung by members of the Glee Club. The day's competitions resulted as follows: Frock costing not more than 6s and made and worn by the member, Miss M. Woolfieltl 1, Mrs Burnett 2, Miss Burnett 3. 10 entries. Best lettuce, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mfs Black 2, Miss M. Hughes 3. 10 entries. The display of members best flowers was absolutely wonderful and admired by all. Mrs Eagle gained 1 with an Iris, Mrs' Fleming 2, Mrs A. K. Bell 3. 20 entries.

Best dowering shrub. Mrs Mitchell 1 (Azalea). M:s Stevenson 2 (Lilac), Miss M. Woolficlcl 3. 8 entries. The hostesses were Mcsdames F. Bell, C. Bell, H. Bell, K. Bell, J. Boynton who provided a dainty tea. A hearty A r ote of thanks was passed to the judges, Mrs Clark and the hostesses. The National Anthem closed a most pleasant meeting".
