SHOOTING OF COW
DISCOVERY NEAR TANEATUA : WARNING TO FARMERS A farmer whose property is near the township of Taneatua, discovered on rounding up his herd yesterday morning that one of his cows had been severely wounded, by a weapon or missile which had passed right through the body. A closer examination showed that the wound was about three inches across, and the veterinary ofiicer who was summoned ordered the animal which was in great pain to be destroyed at once. The first impression was that the cow had been staked but it is now conclusively established that it was shot, possibly accidentally by a pass ing sportsman. If this is so then it is high time that a warning to farmers was issued, against the permission of indiscriminate shooting on their properties. The wound appeared to be caused by a .303 bullet possibly .of'the soft nosed expanding variety.
