INCREASE IN PRICE

NECESSARY FOR INDUSTRY

OFFSET RISE IN COSTS

At the meeting of the District Council of Primary Production on Thursday it was suggested by Mr J. L. Burnett that they should request the Nalional Council to approach the Government with a view r to increasing the guaranteed price. Mr W. A. McCracken pointed out that an increase in the guaranteed price would automatically mean an increase in costs, thus the farmer would be no better off. 'Mr Burnett: "But we didn't start the vicious circle." Mr Burnett, supported by Mr MacDonald, moved: ' That the National Council approach the Government with a request to increase the guaranteed price by one penny per lb." An addition by Mr McCracken: "The Government be asked to stabilise costs and ensure that no further increase take.* place'," was accepted.
