NEW MAIZE-WEEDER
GISBORNE INVENTION
WEEDS AN ACRE AN HOUR
Farmers of the Gisborne district will be very interested in a local invention, a handy maizc-wccdei, which has been patented by Mr Alf Poison, Makauri, who has had many
years' experience in growing maize on the Gisborne Hats, states the Gisborne Herald.
The implement comprises a double row of long spring steel teeth that taper to a gradual point. These teeth scratch along the two rows of maize with a chattering action and weed the crop in a most elt'icient manner. It is designed to handle the weeding of maize from the twoleaf stage until the crop is approximately Ift high. The depth or penetration of the iceth can be altered to suit varying conditions by adjustable wheel's. The draught is light, one horse easily pulling the machine, and one man can cfficiently deal with an acre an hour.
Many farmers who have seen the weeder have expressed the unanimous opinion that it will be of great
service to maize growers, and as well as doing the work efficiently, will reduce greatly the labour cost of bringing a maize crop to profit.
