TEACHERS' TRIALS
CLASSES IN A SHEE> v, Everyone knows that the Whakatane School is over crowded. One teacher already teaches in the band room. The Government has promised two more rooms but they have not been started yet. Due to increased attendance next year another building will probably have . to be used in the Domain and also tents. The following poem was recently given to one of the well-known teachers at the school: February 1940 "A Vision" Said the head to me on Monday morn, Now you'll have Std 3, There's only 61; of them, How lucky you will be. May be I'll take some off your hands Say a dozen of the best, I'll brush their sums and spelling up, I'll give you quite a rest. And then of course there's no room. here, I know a lovely spot, That's cold as ice in winter, A And in summer boiling hot. The rat's run o'er the ceiling, The mice run o'er the floor, The rain comes in the windows, And the cows look in the door. It's the old shed on the highway Twill make a class room neat The pigs and sheep Werie in it last So it doesn't smell too sweet. You'll miss your cup of tea you say My dear now don't be silly Just trot out in the cattle yards And boil the good old billy. "A. S.**
