HOSPITAL BOARD MEETS NURSES' HOME PROBLEMS The chairman, Mr J. W. Sumner, Mrs W. A. McCWcken, and Messrs F. J. Savage, C. A. Suckling, A. iF. McGougan,. F. J. Burt, R. W. Schofield, F. (secretary) and Dr E. T. Dawson (medical superintendent) were present at the meeting of the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board held in the Whakatane Borough Council Chambers on Thursday morning. Mr Schofiekl reported that, with Mrs McCracken, he had visited the hospital that morning. There seemed to be no fresh urgent work to be done. The board decided to notify the Health Department that it was willing to accept liability for the Taneatua and Whakatane district nurses at a cost of £100 a year each, and ask to be relieved of the liabilitjr for the Murupara nurse. There was a discussion on the tender for the erection of a woodshed at the medical superintend-; ent's home, and also for the provision of hot and cold water for the nurses' home. Mr Prideaux said that he had seen the town clerk with a view to getting the cold water installed as domestic supply, but this could not be done on non-rated premises. lie had authorised the contractors to make the connection. Mr Sumner said that the architect, Mr Goodwin, Rotorua, had suggested that as the tender for the erection of the woodshed was high the work should be left until the nurses' home job was completed.

Hot Water Supply,

Mr Goodwin, who attended the meeting,, described the difficulty connected with the supply of hot water to the nurses' home. He was asked to go into the matter with the engineer, Mr Todman, and with Mr Sullivan, and report to the finance committee who were given power to act_ The sum of £30, offered in settlement of an account by Mr Watts, was accepted. The secretary said that an application for travelling expenses had been made on behalf of a pationti admitted to the Waipawa tubercul- ■ osis -sanitarium. The board would, be liable for his maintenance. It was decided that the relatives should be approached to bear the travelling expenses. Furnishing: Home. The chairman reported that ihe matron and he had inspected furniture stocks and had chosen articles for the nurses home, the total amount to be expended being '-202. In reply to a question from Mr McGougan the secretary said ' that „ tenders had been called for the felling of the pine trees at the hospital, one of £25 having been accepted. The work had, been completed on the previous day, the trees having been felled, split and stacked lof firewood. The engineer was instructed to instal a sump to drain surface wat-' er on the edge of the drive.
