INSTITUTE MEETING

W AI MAN A-NUKUHOU

(Beacon Correspondent)

The October meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held in the Waimana Hall, and was very well attended. Mrs Marra presided, and the meeting opened with "The Ode to Friendship." The minutes and correspondence were dealt with. A letter was read from the Dominion Executive, asking what accommodation etc. could be made available in an emergency, if at any time the capital cities of New Zealand had to be evacuated; the response from members was very good, all being only too willing to help in any way at all. Mrs Wool field asked all members to plant potatoes this season for the potato competition, and the time of digging has been extended to March or April. An invitation to the Taneatua Institute birthday on the 14th November was received. The "Goklen Thread," was given by Mrs Davies. The roll call was one minute Impromptu Speeches, which caused much laughter. A word building competition was won by Mrs Hewitt. All members present contributed Is each towards the Leper fund and a cheque will be forwarded to Christ church. It was decided to add a collection of vegetables to the December competitions, and the vegetables to be sold for an emergency comfort fund. The day's competitions were well entered for, the results are as follows: —Cream puffs, 9 entries; Mrs F. Bell 1: Mrs Wool-field 2: Mrs Burnett 3. Lemon honey, ft entries: Mrs Stevenson 1; Mrs 1.. Savage Mrs T. Ward law 3. Best bloom: Mrs A. Eagle 1 (with a Spraxia); Mrs King 2 (Ranunculus); Mrs Stevenson 3 (Tulip). The hostesses served a dainty tea, and a hearty vote of thanks tr. the nidges, M'S Bell and Mrs Gallagher, and the singing of the National An'Vm closed the meeting.
