LOCAL ENLISTMENT BEGINS
12 WHAKATANE APPLICANTS
Recruits for the spccial Maori rifle battalion to train at Palmevston North are being sought in the district, and so far 12 men have given in their names to Mr J. Riini, Piripai, the local registration officer. These men have not yet been medically examined.
Mr Riini will be in Te Teko today and men from that area wishing to enlist can sec him. It is understood that there is likely to be an excellent response, in fact it has been said that there are upwards of •10 men keen to join the force.
