DRAINAGE RATES

CONTINUING REDUCED AMOUNT GOVERNMENT DECISION AWAITED 5 Further application for relief under the land drainage rates has been made by Mr J. W. Sumner, chairman of the Rangitaiki District Ratepayers' Committee, and it has elicited the reply from the Hon. F. Langstone. Minister of Lands, that he is at present carefully considering the position, with a view to seeing what action can be taken.

It must, of course, be realised that the Minister of Finance is concerned in this matter because of the fact that a continuation of the reduced amount fixed for the past tw'o years involved a fairly considerable writ-ing-down of capital, says Mr Langstone Avho hopes, however/ to be able to give a decision in the near future.
