Hope that the United States of America would intervene on Finland's behalf, and make; friend ly representations to the Soviet have been realised, and a note has eone forward to Moscow urg ing that there will be no use of force against a weaker nation. In Finland itself there are growing signs of a crisis, though the morale of the people remains remarkably high. Women and childien have been evacuated from the major towns to places of safety. One hundred thousand men hnwe been called to the colours and the reservists are held in readiness. Reports indicate that there are still huge numbers of Russian troops and guns massed on the Finnish frontiers. Unconfirmed reports state that Soviet flotillas of naval craft are oft the coasts of Norway, and the Scandinavian States are now considered to be in the danger zone. From Sweden it is reported that.

the government has passed two new Bills dealing with economy, and imposing severe penalties tor espionage The Lithuanian delegation to Moscow has finalised its new pact between the two countries. The Soviet press hails the pact as a triumph. Its term -will be for 15 years, and in return for the use of military objectives on Lithuanian soil, the city of "*- r ilna has been returned. There is great excitement in Moscow over the agreement. The trade delegation from Latvia has also arrived in Moscow.
