PAROA TEAM'S FUNCTION

A very enjoyable evening was spent when Mr and Mrs Cleland and family invited the Paroa Cricket Club (.o join with them in farewelling Jack Collins who leaves for the Nga;ruawahia camp on Friday morning. There Avere twenty present and the evening passed happily in a 500 tourney . After a very dainty supper Mr C!elaml made feeling reference to the interest Jack had shown in cricket during the past few years, He tiau. won the affection of all the players and had been, a loyal supporter ofl the Paroa cricket club. He had donated a valuable shield to the Rangitaiki Association and it had pleased him to see his OAvn club (Paroa) av-.h it for the first year.

C. Gillam, captain of the Paroa team, endorsed Mr Cleland s remarks and paid a tribute to the help Jack had given him and although he would be missed this season he hoped he would be back again in the near future to associate himself with Paroa again. He then presented the guest with a signet ring which he could always carry with him to bring back happy days. Mr Collins in replying said it had been a pleasure to play with, such a fine lot of sports as the Paroa team and he looked forward to being able to have the pleasure again. He especially thanked Mr and Mrs Cleland and Aimily for what they had done for him and thanked everybody for having come along. After the singing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" W. Howat played a selection of bagpipe tunes which were very much appreciated and Jack received the good wishes of all as they left.
