RAINFALL

SEPTEMBER DRY IN COUNTRY

Rainfall figures kept by Mr Andrew McLean show that the total Call for the month.of September was 3.39 ins as compared with 3.76 ins for the corresponding period last year. For the nine months this year and the same period last year, the figures have been 33.07 ins and 56.09

ins. Thus it can be seen thsclfrthe spring conditions have been much, the same, but there is a wide difference in the total rainfall.

The winter of 1938 was a particularly wet one, and this, combined with dry conditions in the spring, retarded the growth- of grass and caused a very severe fall in production. No such effect has been noticed this spring but rain would be quite welcome now if more sunny weather followed it.
