OLD BOYS CLUB

ENLISTED MEN FAREWELLED

To wind up their first and successful season, and to farewell three club members who were leaving for camp next morning, the memfaers of the Old Boys Club held a dinner on Monday night at the Commercial Hotel. It proved one oi the happiest functions of the kind held under "Tim's" hospitable roof and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those privileged to be present.

Mr G. C. Tippett gave the toast of the Whakatane Rugby Union which had treated the club well. Many of the players would tnrn out as seniors next year and be was sure that they would get as good treatment from the governing body. Mr L. Orimond replied to the toast.

Mr R. Rowson gave the health of the Star club and Mr W,. Chambers, who responded, agreed with him that Old Boys had proved (formidable rivals in the last season. If amalgamation of the clubs came next year Star would be happy to join forces with Old Bo vs.

Messrs B. Norman, J. Conolly and .T. Roberts, who came in late, were next called on to speak and explainf themselves and they did so in, amusing fashion,. The toast of Messrs J. Buddie. M. Goodall and D. Dean, the three club members who were leaving for camp next day, was proposed by Mr D. McD. Vincent. They had been good fellows, and good Rugby players, li? said, and they Averc noAV about to show their mettle in a sterner game than football. He Avished them every success. The guests responded briefly to their healths. Mr Buddie proposed the toast of Mr W. Armstrong, patron of the club. He had been of the greatest! help in all ways and they OAA T ed much j to him. It had given him great pleasure to I act as patron, said Mr Armstrong, and he hoped for another successful season. Mr M. Armstrong gave th e toast : of Mr Cucksev, and Mr Rowson that of the Avaitresses. DANCE IN MEETINGHOUSE

A successful function was held on Monday night in the Wairaka meet inghouse, Whakatane, Avhen Messrs It. Crapp, H. Docld and R. Stokes, three oil Whakatane's popular young men who have answered the call to arms were farewclled before leaving for camp. The evening proved very happy and not the least pleasant event was the substantial' supper. The whole occasion reflects great credit on the organisers.
