POROPORO WINS

GAME WITII ROTORUA TEAM

In weather really too hot lor lootbail Whakarcwarcnva met Poroporo on the Domain 011 Saturday, the game resulting in a win 'for Poroporo by eight to nil. The visitors were playing their first game for several weeks f and they were also feeling the effects of a heavy journey, but had they been litter they might have won. It was not cleancut football, but most of the gaino was very interesting and often cxciting, as the players scrambled and the ball went in all directions. It was a good effort for Poroporo as there were a lot of, Rotorua reps,, in the visitors. The teams were: — Whakarcwarcnva; Waretini, Hapc, Waaka t Maika, Marsh, Jacobs, Ahipenc, Kingi, Aratcma, Hamiora, Pene. Balzer ? Pone, Mutu, Raimona. Poroporo: I.Riini, S. Merito, P. Merito, R. Kingi, Hotene ? Rangikotua, Waaka, Hotene, WhaI rewera, Maui, Mate (2) ? Riini, Mer,ito. Rotorua showed up briefly but Poroporo had the better of the early exchanges. A good patch came when! Kingi jinked through and centred under the posts, but Marsh was handy to take the bounce and clear a little. Then S. Merito hoisted the flags with a good penalty. The play was fast, not scientific, but interesting. Rotorua pressed but Jacobs missed free kicks, then I. Riini lined a long ball to drive Rotorua back. Rotorua were helped by penalties. The Blue forwards wci'e lively and made good rushes but infringements nullified much of their work. Finally three men went away and a try came. The kick succeeded. (8-0),

The second halfi was much on the pattern of the first, but Rotorua, though they held a slight territorial advantage, never looked winners. They were unlucky to miss one try. Mr F. Darvill rcfcrecd.
