The secretary, Mr J. Partridge, •stated that the sum of £172 had already been banked and he understood that there were further sums to come tfk'om the three queens' committees. Mr H. Warren Uor the Cricket and Hockey committee, said there was a further £36 to be handed in. Mr G. We have- the alternatives of investing it ? holding it in trust or, spending it on ■improvements as we intended." DELEGATES VIEWS. The d'scussion which followed showed a wide and varied views as -to what should be done with the --money. The suggestion that it should be allocated to several deserving •causes, such as the Plunket Socicty, the Ambulance Fund, or the School Dental Clinic met with no support, it being definitely contended that the funds had been subscribed by the public for the sports grounds, imd it would be wrong to divert , "them. A suggestion to retain the existing organisation b3 r merely postponing the carnival indefinitely, wa? also rejected in view of the difficult}' in keeping the personnel. It was decided finally on the motion of Mr C. S. Armstrong that the carnival be abandoned and that a trust be set up for the control and | "investment of the funds in hand. QUESTION OF TRUSTEES. The appointment of trustees occasioned some difficulty in view of the uncertainty at?: the period of appointment. The position, was met by finally electing the Mayor of Whakatane, the town olerk and Mr C. S. Armstrong. The investment of the funds was -also left to the discretion of the • trustees. In the event of the sports organisations of the . town seeking access to the flund upon: any special occasion it was decided to make such provision in the following terms: "That the funds be held by thd trustees until such time as they are -directed to dispose of them by the unanimous decision of those present at a meeting of two delegates from -each sports body concerned in the • carnival. Such meeting to be called ■at the instigation of any cifl such •sports bodies, fourteen cjear days :notice to be given." COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL. The meeting also unanimously de'cifee to promote a special dance foi i the purpose of making a presentation to the young ladies who had agreed to act as queens. This matter was left in the hands of? the central • executive with power to add. It was agreed that the presentations should approximate the value ••of £5 in each instance.
