FOOTPATHS AND DRAINAGE (Footpaths and roacling matters in Te Teko and Edgecumbe were before the Whakatane County Council when it met on Tuesday. The district engineer, Tauranga., wrote to the county in. connection with a request for a subsidy for a concrete footpath at Te Teko, stating that the Main Highways Board would not subsidise this class of path, and asking for a revised estimate i'or a scaled footpath instead. It was stated that the footpath in question was 'n such a position that it carried some horse traffic and this damaged the bitumen. Th e county engineer was instructed to place this before the district engineer again. Edgecumbe had had very fair treat ment said Cr D. W. Spence when the council considered a request from Mr T. Bell that a drain be opened up from the Edgecumbe butchery to Mr RadclilTe's. Cr Spence said that alter heavy rain water lay there ? but the money could not be found this year to improve matters. The council, agreed with this view. Mr Bell was given permission to fill in holes on county roadway property adjoining his section, the site to be used as a parking area.
