BORN ON BUS
MAORI WOMAN'S ORDEAL AN UNEXPECTED BABY A healthy baby was born under what must surely be unique circumstances on Saturday afternoon. The mother, a Maori woman, had ridden on a bus to Rotorua for a medical consultation and the conclusion was that the happy event was still at least a week distant. The mother was returning to her home at Rotoiti and was a few miles out of liotorua when the birth took place. Although bus drivers are generally recognised as being exceedingly resourceful the driver of this machine was faced AVith a set circumstances that had not previously come within his experience and certainly was not provided for in the Transport Regulations. However, a woman passenger, experienced in such matters took charge, and the child was successfully delivered, the mother made as comfortable as possible, and taken safely home together with the little stranger, who also seemed to be quite well.
