ARAWAS DRILL
GREAT ENTHUSIASM SHOWN Over 50 young and middle-aged A'aoris. turned out to a volunteer military parade at Ohinemutu, in the Tunuhoupo meetinghouse, on
Thursday evening, the men receiving instruction from qualified officers. The keenness of the men was immediately evident, most of them picking up the rudiments of squad drill in the first half hour. This is the first parade to be held at Ohinemutu, though three have taken place at Whakarewarewa in the past fortnight. A feature of the drill was the interest shown by other members of the tribe, many of whom attended the parade and were delighted with the spectacle of their young men training to be warriors. The parade Avas held under the auspices of Te Arawa Maori Returned Soldiers' League, which has been active in the advocacy of a Maori battalion far the New Zealand forces, a wish which has been recognised and sanctioned by the Government.
