ATHLETIC CLUB'S YEAR The Whakatane Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club "'Yield'''" its annual meeting in the • Soroush Chambers on Wednesday night, Mr L. Preston taking the chair in the temporary absence of Mr L. Ormond, actingpresident. The report stated that an active membership of 20 seniors, eight ladies five cyclists and numerous jun ior.s must be considered satisfactory for the first season, though it was disappointing in regard to cyclists. It was hoped to popularise this feature during the coming season. Increased support from the ladies was also anticipated. The balance in tlie Post Office savings bank of £14 13s lid was considered satisfaction and it was confidently anticipated that the finances would be in a still healthier position at the end of the present season. Great improvement had been shown in, the track through the efforts of energetic working parties, and with the aid of a grant of £15 from the Domain Board it was hoped to build' a track second to none in the disn trict. 4 After a long discussion \vith the | centre, the club's colours h a <l heem registered as royal blue singlet witbf orange band f.nd black shirts. The appearance of members* was good, said the report. I TROPHIES. Trophies had been won as follows; Club championship (Morpeth Gup), 440 yards championship (Kohn Cup)" distance event (Brebner Cup) Dv Morpeth; Club handicap (Ward trophy) T. Brown; 100 yards championship (Rivett Cup) H,. W. Chambers: Field events (Plamus Cup) M. Hotene. The Whittle and Moore Cups for cycling,, and the trophy for the ladies* championship were not competed fcr. It was regretted that, the weekly relay contests were but it was hoped that fresh interest would be shown in the competition for the "Run Fairly" Shield, presented by Mr C. Mollison and at present held by Mr A. Moore's team. During the season the president. Dp A. S. King, left the district, and the duty had since been performed by Mr L. Ormond. Tt was with regret that the long and serious illness of the secretary, Mr "Bill"' Ward was mentioned. His enthusiasm and hard work was responsible for the success of the club and its present healthy position, and the president was pleased to be able to state that Ward was now prac tically recovered and his early return to Whakatane was hoped for. BALANCE SHEET The balance sheet showed liabilities as nil and assets of £17 18s lid. In the statement of receipts and expenditure subscriptions amounted to £7 10s. registration fees £2, £4 45,. athletic displays and stall £112s, physical fitness week £1 12s, dance proceeds £1 17s, interest 7d & total of £28 5s 7d. On expenditure side affiliation, registrat'on etc amounted to £2 15s 6d t hire of council chambers 7s 6d. equipment £2 16s 6d, cutting track £1 2s 0:1. advertising £1 lis 6d„ stationery 9s, trophies £1 18s Gd, paint and timber £2 4s lid, shots 5s 9d.
