THE AVONDALE MEETING BIG FIELDS THROUGHOUT (By .Zetland) , . The Avoiulale Jockey Club will hold its first meeting of the .season on Saturday and .Monday. Taking into consideration, the very full list of acccptanecs, the class of candidates engaged, and the fact that a big proportion of the contestants are in fine racing trim, the contests should ])o keenly fought out, and the meeting a definite success. The nicely varied programme will open with the Kingsland Hurdles, one mile and a half. Royal Dance's autumn form over the sticks at Tauranga and Te Rap a has apparently not been overlooked by the handicappcr for he is asked to cariy 11.5 while no less than nine of the thirteen, acceptors are in the nine stone division. However the Spear Dancc representative will find the distance suitable, and the public may place most reliance in ROYAL DANCE MIA ACREA AGOG
With 35 in the acceptance list for the Trial Plate two divisions may lie necessitated. The distance, seven furlongs, may prove to be just a little too far for the majority of the entrants. Included in the list is Buccaneer, by Constant Son, Tlie Doper, a member of Hector Gray's team, Glndyner, by Musketoon - Caviare, Hunto, a half brother to Requiem, Pern one of Fred Davis' team, Miss Brierly, a full sister to Miss Lu and Roval Fawkes who showed up prominently last season. For the first division those in demand may include PERN BUCCANEER DICK TURPIN Popular fancies in the second division will probably be HUNTO gay movie MISS BRIERLY Those engaged in the Henderson Handicap of six furlongs include a number of good hnek sprinters. In the list are Mintlaw, Sebrof ? Foxmond, Bronze Moth, Little Ruse, Greek Queen, Royal Message and Pantheist, all of whom have galloping capability. There is likely to oe strong support for FOXMOND SEBROF MINTLAW Turf patrons present will then become interested in the prinicpal event of the day, the Avondalc Cud, one mile and a quarter. The. successful hurdler. King Rev, heads the ILst with 9.0, a weight that may not trouble him. Ned Cuttle, who showed his best form for a long time in the Trentham mud of July last follows with 8.10. with Master Brierly next at B'. (5. Lowenberg, with a second at Wanganui last week, gave evidence that he is returning to form Black Musk third in the Jellicoe Handicap at the Pakuranga fixture, is training on very satisfactorily. The fancied division may include NED CUTTLE BLACK MUSK LOWENBERG The four furlongs dash t the Avondale Stakes, aa ill doubtless provide the puzzle for the afternoon, and the preliminaries down the straight of what are considered the leading juveniles, will be eagerly scanncl. for the entrants have no previous public . performances through which a line as to their galloping prospects may be determined. Some of *he Takanini and Ellcrslie trained juveniles have shown speed on the training tracks, but most of the candidates are at present unknown quantities. The fancied division may include MERRY-MEER KENTUCKY QUEEN CITY Much interest will be centred in tlie Champion Plate, of seven furlongs. A very fine race should be assured and the favourite division
may comprise BRAZEN BOLD SILVER STICK HAGEN Open class sprinters loom large in the Flying Handicap field, and if the track is fairly firm, a brilliant >ix furlongs run will eventuate. The public may sum up in favour of the chances of MAJORITY KATHBELLA VALIMEEN" (Continued at foot of next co!u:n r")
