CRIPPLED CHILDREN

WHAKATANE BRANCH MEETS Dr E. T. Dawson was appointed chairman when the Whakatanc branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society met in the County Chambers recently. Also present were. Messrs F. Prideaux, D. V. Saunders and C. G. Lucas, the latter being appointed secretary and treasurer. It was resolved that in seeking out the cases of crippled children an endeavour be made to co-opt the services of the district nurses. The chairman reported that Mr James Bowden, of had seen him in regard to his year old daughter who had had infantile paralysis in May 1937. It was stated subsequently to the press that the society derives its revenues from bequests and contributions and that its objects are to assist crippled children by facilitating the obtaining of advice of specialists, giving assistance towards treatment, assisting in education where children are unable to attend schools by arranging private tuition or correspondence courses, and training in trades and professions. The functions of the local committee arc to locate cases in the district, make the necessary enquiries and to report and recommend to Auckland branch of the society.
