Dear Sir
Letters to the Editor must be clearly written dSi one side of the i tf HBOiiiaie-plume ~t is used the name •< of the writer fz must be* enclosed for reference Sir, —I reecntly jnade an appeal in your paper for assistance to the Lepers at Makogai. Also when broadcasting from Christchurch we an- j nounced to 1 the patients at | who were listening to me that we were going to help them again this year. We have since entered into the European War and in the upset I feel that our suffering friends who look to us for sympathy may be forgotten. My responsibility is a heavy one, and I feel I must try to the utmost of my ability to carry out this promise, and not to disappoint our suffering friends. As soon as we have received suiiicient support to be able to give some little gifts to each of the 619 we will close the appeal at an early date, and so leave the way clear lor the Patriotic Societies. M' ■ May our New Zealand peoplßpve these Island friends a little racou/- ■> agement to keep up heart, and so wage a war against this dread disease of leprosy. With gratitude for the help given us in the past. Yours etc., P. J. TWOMEY, j Hon. Sec. Makogai Leper Fund. In a footnote to the Editor, Mr Twomey adds that the position is most difficult but that he has every confidence .of 'weathering the storm* ; with the assistance of the friends who have come forward so readily year after year. Ed.
