RHODES SCHOLARSHIP
WHAKATANE MAJ* dominated The Professorial Board at Massey College has nominated Alan Stewarr, so n of Mr and Mrs K. Stewart. Hillcrest f Whakatane for a Rhodes Scholarship in 1940. Mr Stewart, who is 21, was edu. ca,ted at St. Heliers Primary School (Auckland) Te Akau Primary School the Whakatane District High School and Mount Albert Grammar School. He won a Junior National Scholarship from Whakatane. In 1936 he commenced a course for the degree of Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Auckland University College and since 1937 had continued the course at Massey College. He is now in the last year of the degree course. In 1937 Mr Stewart was awarded the Lord Bledisloe prize for the leading student in his year at Massey College. Mr Stewart represented Mount Albert Grammar School at football, cricket and swimming. In 1930 he was one of the Auckland Rugby junior representatives and since coming to Massey College has been a member of the first fifteen, being captain this year. He has been nominated for the All Black trials. He is a member of the Manawatu representatives, and Avas a member of the North Island universities' team in 1937. He secured his college "blue'' for swimming in, 1938.
Mr Stewart AA r as a prefect at Mount Albert Grammar School and at Massey College has been an executive member of the swimming, tennis and Rugby clubs. He Avas president of the Students'' Association for 1938-39.
