THE QUEEN CARNIVAL
GOOD PROGRESS MADE ALL COMMITTEES ACTIVE The Whakatane Sports Queen Carnival, continues to make excellent headway, and in spite of the number of appeals already before the public the response in most instances has been most gratifying. The various sub-committees have been, actively pushing the interests of the three Queens, the financial position of whom are shown in another portion of to-day's Issue. An intensive campaign is planned covering the whole "of September which will mark the conclusion ol the carnival and the final preparations for the Crowning Ceremony The programme ahead, includes besides the usual competitions, concerts in town and country, tennis tourneys, boxing tourneys, entertainments, shops, and novelty evenings—-an. imposing list which should keep the executive members' fully occupied. The central executive have also been active, weekly meetings having been held and the whole progress of the carnival being controlled and assisted. The main item under consideration at the present time is the forthcoming mid-carnival to be staged by the central executive and held on Wednesday September l'-i. Members will also wait on Mr A. G. Hultquist, when he visits Whaka„ tane on Saturday next, and will dis-> cuss with him ths possible government subsidies likely to be forthcoming on monies raised.
