GOOD POSITION

<*A. AND P. SHOW A TWO.DAY FIGURE A satisfactory financial position was shown when the report and balance sheet of the Whakatane and Rangitaiki Agricultural and Pastoral Society was presented at the.annual general meeting in the County Cham hers Whakatane, on Monday night. Mr R. Ruddick, president reported that a ."surplus of assets over liabilities amounting to £79 lis 3d \va> disclosed, and that this final figure was arrived at after spending £44 on improvements. Last year assets had exceeded liabilities by £71 Is Hid, so that it Mould be seen that the decided improvement in the financial position which became evident last year had been maintained. Improvements to shed and groun.ls were carried out at an expense of i 11. These improvements Avcre mainly stumping operations in the vicinity of the camping ground (resulting in much better space available for the side shows and trade exhibitors), and tar sealing of the lloor in the main building. The thanks of the committee were extended to the following who act. Ed as judges: Mesdames J. H. Rcid, K. Stewart, M. J. ,Fogarty ? Misses E. Reid, Thompson. Messrs T. "5. Johnson, G. V/. Ansell, H. Dc Mon. talk, J. S. Rae f W. T. Luxton, E. J. Parkinson, F. W. Rcid, G. Bishoprick, J. Breingan, W. T. Phillips P. H. Clarkin. Trophy winners were as follows: Whakatane Domain Cup, W. F. Hall; G. R. The society had obtained a lease of the shoAv ground portion of the Domain at an annual rental of £2.1 for 20 years, and tenders have been called for the sub-letting of this portion of the grounds. The baeoner competition at the show proved a marked success. Seven entries were judged on the hoof and were consigned to the works, where they Avere judged on the hooks. After being made into J.-aeon they Avere returned and exhibited at the Winter Show. At this shoAv a raffle Avas conducted and the net proceeds after paying expenses and cost of bacon Avas £20. It Avas suggested that this money should be used to augment the prize money for this class at future shows. The balance sheet showed liabilities at £522 5s Id, and assets at £001 16d 4d. OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted: — Patron; Mr A. G. Hultquist, M.i : ; president: Mr R. Ruddick; 'vice-pre-sidents: Messrs W. A. McCracken, W. G. llowat; treasurer: Mr F. B. Cutler; auditor: Mr F. Prideaux; committee: the same as last year Avith the addition of Mr H. G. Rand. The chief business discussed was the proposed two-day show next year. It Avas stated that one objection appeared to be the fact that stock Avould have to be left on the grounds for taa'o days, and farmers Avould not be likely to do this in bad Aveather. Mr G. Kent, secretary, proposed that the first day be a cattle show, and riding events and a gymkhana be staged on the second day. He thought they Avould get tAVo good gates. Mr McCracken agreed that, though there Avere diffculties in the wav v 1 the proposal Avas a good one. Mr Ruddick said that last year the F'iesian judge had told him that the show AA'as becoming too crowded as a one day fixture, and a second day should be added. It Avas agreed eA T entually that given fine AA-eather it would be little hardship to hold cattle for the second day than to traA'el them '>'i the circuit. A feAv paddocks Avould be needed.
