Many of the leading lacing clubs in New Zealand wil] enter into thireal spirit of Centennial Year, and will endeavour to stage the record meetings in their history. Optimism of a high order is already ruling in the deliberations of Metropolitan bodies anent the prize money to bo offered In order to assure most successful fixtures in 1940. A few weeks ago the Auckland Racing Club decided to materially increase the I stakes, and especially so for the Auckland Cup, and last week the Wellington Racing Club ? in arranging for a monster gathering in Jan-J uary next, arrived at the decision to increase the prize money for it? Cup race to £30(J0 ? which amount will include a Gold Cup trophy, valued at £200, donated by its enterprising stewards.
