MAIN HIGHWAY
Sir ? —Is it not a serious mistake to have the Main Highway through th? business area. This is being proved in almost every important town in New Zealand. Just give the matter a little thought. You make a business trip to Auckland, what benefit are you to any of the towns on th? highway that you pass through? None whatever. Even a place like Haml_ ton has recently made an alternate route for through traffic. Bv all means have the highway ..through Borough or even on the outskirts but not in the vicinity of the business area. * What we waift are ideal roads for our country friends to come into town. This will advertise o~ put vis on the map (as it is called) better than anything. The route first suggester along Stewart Street and theiii across to the Maraetotara Gorge is the practical way. If the hospital blocks Stewart Street then the next best route is a line from. Bridge Street to the gorge. This way. to my mind % is the most economical. The highway via Otarawairere and Ohope will cost thousands. Yours etc..
