DEATH RATE OF PIGS
Mr Fawcett, of the Department of Agriculture, in a survey of the position has estimated that the number of pigs available for slaughter in New Zealand, comnarerl with those actually put through, .showed}a discrepancy of 12.),000 or in other words, a death rale of 12.> 00!) pigs. It is very evident, therefore, that there is no doubt whatever that if greater attention is paid to cardinal matters, i.e., improved housing feeding and improved conditions, the alarming mortality in young pigs would be reduced to reasonable proportions. At present about 20 per cent of the pigs killed have a blemish of some kind that is recorded by meat inspectors.
