department heads report In EARLY £10,000 IN BUILDING PERMITS & Four nerw service lines were erected in Whakatanc during June, and a start made Avith the erection of a new- secondary Jine along Francis Street. A new line is also to be erected along Domain Road, said Mr F. W. Lysaght Borough Electrical Engineer, in his report to the Whakatane Borough Council, presented nt its meeting on Monday night. The Taneatua Road line alterations were now completed. Seven new lighting consumers, two ranges and one hot water cylinder had been connected during the month Ten new building permits totalling £9793 in value were issued during the month. Among other matters Mr W. S. Henderson, Borough Foreman, reported that the construction of the reinforced concrete wall at The Heads was now well under way. An increase in the strchgth of the wall would add slightly to its cost. The contractor had commenced to suppl\ r filling for the area and' three dozen trees for the ar'ea were to hand and had been temporarily planted in boxes in suitable soil. The extensive work of trenching and iaj'ing concrete pipes in the Goul stone lload stormwater drain w;< ••• now in hand and dnvns in the Apa_ nui' area Douglas Street, Arr/.-c Avenue and Salonika Street have been lightly trimmed and cclared. Two new connections had been ma.de to the water supply and icpairs to mains carried out. Mr Henderson added that an application ha:l been received to connect four State houses in Francis Street. There Avas •to main in the locality. Figures covering the cost of the work were Pl- - in the estimates and he asked for instruction;-: from the council. He was instructed to carry out the \V( i'k. Cr J. Arros a-ked whether it was: 'he intention to fill hd the short drain from sump on Goulstone Road. , The foreman stud the matter hr\d been put in hand during the day.
