Barry, at .Monday night's meeting of the Who. katane Borough Council, detailed :steps which the town elerk had taky when attention was drawn to the Vfact that the site of the proposed aerodrome at Awakeri was to be auo. -tioned. Mr Saunders had got in touch with TNIr R. H. P. Ronayne, District Public Works Engineer, and had stressed the fact that a saving of perhaps &10 1 acre would be made .if: the land ..purchased now. • > He j had also ▼ answered some criticism, of the'suitability of the block, and Mr Ronayne had agreed to give an answer immediately on his return, from Wellington next week. That did not give much time before the sale. Mr Barry said that the position -seemed to be that there was an aero--drome at Opotiki and one at Tau. ranga t and that the Government was not worrying about one at Whakatane. (gp Cr C. S. It was not the council's fault an aerodrome had not been acciuired, though the public m'ght f think it was.
