GREAT DAY AT TE TEKO MR TV MELROSE'S SUCCESS The Te Teko Cattle Dog Trial Club's annual meeting was held last Wednesday. The weather cleared up and ? favoured with a beautiful dav. one of the most successful meetings held for a number of years resulted. The attendance was good. Entries in the dog events were an increase on last year, and the standard of work was quite good, with a number of dogs scoring well up in the points. Outstanding success was gained by a local competitor Mr T. Melrose. His dog put up a very good run to win the event, and he also took the club's cup, the Dunderdale Memorial Cup and two gold medals. Another l young local competitor FButler set a very good example to the youth of the district by winning the Garlick Rose Bowl and the special prize for the novices. Competition for the Drovers Cup did not get quite the support that it should attract, and Mr IT. Pryor had very little difficulty 111 winning it for the second time. : # Entries in the horse ; events were disappointing but. exciting competition was provided by the small number that were competing. During the afternoon Mr C. F. Eiv president of the. club, presented to Mr T. Garlick the Armstrong Cup. This cup has quite a history attach, ed to it as it dates back to the year 1929 when it was presented by Mr Armstrong and first competed for. II Avas to be Avon, by the competitor compiling the most points in five years. At the end of the first five years Mr T. Garlick Avon it and he very generously presented it to the club for competition under' the same conditions for a further five years. Mr Garlick again \von this cup and was heartily congratulated by the president for his fine performances. | Mr Eivers took the opportunity of 1 apologising for the absence of the Patron, Mr F. W. Doidge, M.P., who fully intended to be present but through unforseen circumstances was unfortunately absent. In replying Mr Garlick said that he Avas very pleased indeed to get final possession of tlu cup as he had lost his old t'og 'Ben' Ay.ho.did more than his share of winning the cup by haA'ing his name inscribed on it four times. He concluded by Avishing the club CA'erv success. Judges Avcre Mr C. McKenzie, dog ner and their decisions met Avith events and Mr J. Jam.ieson. horse events. They acted in a capable manevery satisfaction. Results:— Dog event: T. Melrose's ''Fly'' 50 points 1; E. Hunt's ''Poi' 18 points 2; T. Garlick's "Pat" 46 points 3; T. Garlick s ''Rip" 44 points 4. as smoothly as did the catering arrangements in the afternoon, for which the branch Avas also responsible The hall was packed. Freddy Burt's orchestra supplied the music and kept the many dancers gay Avith nis popular programme. Mr W. Hutton, who acted bs M.G., carried out ihe duties in his usual capable manner. Opportunity AA'as taken during the supper interval by the President, Mr C. Eivers, to present the -lay's cups and trophies which made a spectacular sight on the stage. In thanking the donors Mr Eivers said that it gave him very much pleasure to accept on behalf of the club,, the beautiful cup to be known as the Dunderidale Memorial Cup, from Mrs T. B. Dunderdale. Com. petition for it AA r ould create much interest in the club and commemorate one of the best supporters the club had ever had. Mr Eivers also thanked especially the Women's Division, for the assistance they rendered the club l)3 f doing the catering on the ground and conducting the dance in such an enjoyable and capable manner and he also thanked the farmers Avho very kindly lent their calves, the committee, the officers, and all those pre sent who helped to make the trials such a success. The club Avill be groAvn up next year by reaching its twenty-first anniA'crsary and it is hoped to lime some of the original members present to join in the celebrations.
