CRITICISM OF DOMAIN BOARD RUGBY UNION IS NOT IMPLICATED A statement that the Whakatanc Rugby Sub-Union was not implicated in any way in the newspaper controversy iu connection with the Domain was made by Mr W. S. Hender son, chairman, at Wednesday night's meeting of the executive of the union ''The union is not implicated in any shape or form and it would be as well to make a statement t 0 that effect," he said. "The matter of con. veniences and playing facilities has never been, discussed at any meeting I have attended } and although letters appear to be coming from Rugby supporters the union has no connection with them at all." The secretary, Mr F. Peebles, said that figures quoted by Mr C. S.-Arm-strong, secretary of the Whakatanc Domains Board, did not reconcile with details of payments in the union's books. Mr Armstrong had said tha't the union in the past five seasons had paid £31 10s to the Domain Board, but the amount actually paid was £41 10s. From 1931 to 1939 (including a,n amount of £10 passed for payment that evening) the sum of £S« 13s 6d had been paid. RUGBY'S LEAD Mr J. Conolly (Whakatanc) said that last year a meeting was convened by the Whakatanc Rugby Union to consider suggestions for the better ment of the sporting facilities in Whakatanc At that meeting > on Mr! J. Bullard's suggestion, a committee i was formed and it was resolved to endeavour to get a Government grant for the erection of stands and dressing rooms to cater for centralised sport. That committee was still wait_ ing for a reply from the Government. The union, far from doing nothing, had thus given a lead to the sporting community.
