SPORTSMEN FEAST
PREXON FERENCC pINNER A TOPICAL MENU. ? Charming jrankness over the alleged origin of some of - the delicacies was sliown when the Opotiki Hod and Gun Club tendered a conferencc dinner to members of the Bay of Plenty rod and gun clubs at the Opotiki Ho tel last Saturday night. Under the presidency of Mr G. S. Moody, May- ) or of Opotiki, the guests sat down to an elaborate menu of which the first item to causc raised eyebrows was the fish course. This was ''poached sea.run trout a la Matuka." The guests f in the course were confronted with '"pheasant a la Kean, hard to get,' 1 ''wild duck, fiist barrel Jube," "Gosling with Arthur cranberry jelly" and ''Ivercru, scarte > camp cooked (confiscated)'' came next. Venison, wild pork, beef and mutton (with Walter Nash sauce) formed a new series of obstacles, aril the sweets course puzzled the guests j with topical courses. Miss Peggy Pickctt, the "Rangatira Cher'' was not finished, for offered half a dozen savouries before plying her guests with coffee an'l nuts and fruit. TOASTS Toasts honoured during the dinner were The King, The Visitors, both given by the chairman and the seßond responded to by club delegates, and the Department of Internal Affairs, given by Mr R. Mcllwraith and responded to by Mr V. C. Barton. A- conference followed the dinner, when it could have been readily understood if any delegate had been a little somnolent. Actually they show, ed that they could eat their game as well as shoot it and much important business was transacted. AMUSING DRAWINGS The menu which listed all the good things was an amusing piece of worl:. On the cover a buxom mermaid ieclined gracefully on the back of a species of marine monster. She coyly extended both a brimming glass and an invitation to her audience to ''Come down and sec me sometime." The back of the menu bore a happy sketch of a line of ducks in .flight. Duck number three had its wings pointing upvfaids while all the others ■\Vere on the and the duck following the delinquent was screaming harshly "There you go—out of step again."
