In the past bandsmen had not always seen eye to eye with Mr Mayo but if they rallied round him he could do good work. Mr Sutherland said Mr Mayo's capabilities were well-known. It gave him great) pleasure to see two of the leading supporters of the band favour Mr Mayo's appointment. Mr Canning said if the band did their* bit he knew the council would see them through financially. BANDMASTER'S VIEWS Mr Mayo thanked the meeting for the appointment. Little disputes in the past had led to misunderstanding & as Mr Canning said it. was hard to hear wrong notes and mistakes, but carelessness was the thing he objected to chiefly. His ; aim was to improve the standard and he had always tried to do this. The band seemed to overlook the necessity for teamwork. What he wanted was triers, and he was prepared t<j help them if they did try. Practice, too, was essential. One blow a week was useless. It they practiced hard and improved they would find it a pleasure to work together. Fooling by some members wa? most unfortunate and Jed to Lad feeling. He also hoped for a successful year. After the question of a juvenile band been raised by Mr T. Atkin. son it was decided that the committee should go into the question of getting some of the old instruments repaired for the tuition of young nlayens. It was stated by several mem bers that a. small charge for tuition would make the learners value wh'it they were taught. We have the latest in Coats Frocks and MilMnerv now dicnWed in our showroom.
