-o —■ AIIUWHENUA v WHAKATANE The match between Ahuwhenua (Ruatoki) and Whakatane in, the Domain last week-end resulted in a win for the home tesm by 3 »o3ls »o 1. The scorers for Whakatane were C. Free 2 goals and F. R. Brown 1. The game was very even and the visitors were spectacular with the. dexterous handling of their sticks Both teams will profit from practice, especially as regards combination, which will go a long way to opening up the play in future. A feature of the game was the-, splendid refereeing of Mr 11. G. Johnson, president of the Taranaki Hockey who accompanied by Mrs Johnson'is „in the district on holiday visiting his son Mr B. Johnson, the home team's outside left winger. An encouraging feature of the afternoon was the number of spectators who turned up to witness the game. This fact from the players point of view was very gratifying and encouraging, as hockey in this part of the country has been a dead number for the past four seasons. The club secretary, Mr Horton O. Stewart, would like to take this opportunity of reminding the public and hockey enthusiasts that no gate charge can be made for Sunday ploy , and would appreciate donations for the financial support of the club. Whakatane A and B teams are advised to attend a practise in the Domain on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock.
