The other victim oJ the tragedy was Mr John Hcnriksor ol" Matamata. At tfyp time of the accident the Mako was bringing a party G f eigh! men back from an Easter decp_st;r fishing expedition to Mayor Island. The six remaining members of the party were rescued as a resist of £ swim by Mr VenneSl, who tied a line around bis waist an;, swam out about two hundred yard: through the heavy surf to the grcm; of men. all of whom were moidh becoming exhausted by their strug gle« against the sea,. Mr Venneil succceded in attaching the line to the wreckage, and mer on shore were able to haul, the deck ing in to safety. The launch was later washed u'l on the Waihi -beach.
