BODY IN THE SEA

FLOATING OFF TAURANGA LAUNCH TRAGEDY RE.CALLED (Special to Deacon) t TAURANGA, Thursday. The police at T<iiirain;;i were ad_ vised late last night that a local launch party had seen yesterday a body floating in the sea n long distance from Motiti Island. This morning Constables Loekic and Watt left in Messrs Faulkner Bros,, launch llLMemoana to make ? search of the locality indicated wltr the hope of recovering the bodv . The six remaining members of the party were rescued as a resist of £ swim by Mr VenneSl, who tied a line around bis waist an;, swam out about two hundred yard: through the heavy surf to the grcm; of men. all of whom were moidh becoming exhausted by their strug gle« against the sea,. Mr Venneil succceded in attaching the line to the wreckage, and mer on shore were able to haul, the deck ing in to safety. The launch was later washed u'l on the Waihi -beach.
